Ramu NiCo marks Earth Day

The National

RAMU NiCo Management (MCC) workers observed World Earth Day yesterday with a cleanathon along Modilon Road in Madang.

Senior managers joined the workers from all Ramu NiCo departments in Madang and staff of major contractor Raibus Engineering to collect rubbish from their office premises near Handy Mart hill to Modilon General Hospital in a two-hour cleanathon.

World Earth Day is a United Nation’s sanctioned event that habitants of the world pay respect to planet earth, and try to observe the day with activities to it free from pollution and other destruction.

Executive vice president of Ramu NiCo and director Gu Yuxiang also joined the cleanathon and collected rubbish from start to finish.

It was great team spirit as both nationals and expatriates walked side-by side to clean up the town’s main street.

Motorists and residents were generally amused upon noticing the Ramu NiCo employees in the  bright uniforms doing such community service work instead of being busy in their ‘glass-house’ complex.

The company has been observing the United Nation’s sanctioned events with active participation since its establishment in Madang.
It also invites students from schools in Madang to its premises such as World Environment Day and school excursions.

Coordinator of the cleanathon Ivan Mullul said the company also provided a vehicle to remove rubbish collected in disposal bags.

“The cleanathon is a wonderful gesture in which a major corporate citizen such as Ramu NiCo in Madang can show that it is concerned and wants to display its genuineness to keep the town clean and tidy,” he said.
